Another sketch from last Saturday's Picarto stream. This time it was a Patreon reward for
RebelSqurl. Last year during a stream someone asked me if the cocktail The Manhattan was a woman what would she look like? After some thought I decided she'd look this. Manhattan 01
This time Rebel was thinking about the Mint Julep, a fine concoction to help one make it through a hot southern day. Now unlike the torch singer I did the for the Manhattan, Rebel was thinking along the lines of a Southern Belle, and to be honest that was the first thing that popped into my head to. So I went with the first image that popped into my head which was this. Now if you are a historian of 19th century clothing and garments don't start sending me nastygrams telling that this costume is completely wrong. I know that. The dress is a mish-mash of elements my subconscious dragged up when I started drawing.
This is also a case of not creating a garment that is technically accurate, but represents what many people today think the garments looked like back then. Or to put it another way it is what many people, mostly guys, hoped the garments looked like back then. I had a similar situation with a Rosemary piece many years ago. Figurehead
I hope you like what you see. Please help make more art like this possible by supporting me at Patreon
