So aside from being surprisingly impressed with with Zelda's showing at this year's E3, the other delightful piece to come from Nintendo this year was the surprise release of Rhythm Heaven MegaMix for the 3DS. Like, hey, it's on the EShop right now, kinda deals.
I've been playing this series from day one, and I'm happy to finally see a version released locally that doesn't feel compromised in any way. While the original's button controls were just perfect the needless Touch Screen implementation of the DS release only served to overly complicate what should have remained simpler games. Likewise the Wii release while in execution largely faultless was hampered a bit if you had the video hooked up via any digital medium (ie component video) which would introduce hampering lag depending on the television being played on.
But this version I can recommend with very few caveats, especially if you ever asked yourself 'What if the WarioWare folks made a music game', which is is exactly what this is and probably what they've been wanting to do with some of the sub-games in WarioWare was any indication.
The character in question here, 'Tibby' is your companion as you play through the game's main campaign mode, a child who fell form Heaven World and needing the player's assistance to get back home. At the beginning he comes off as rather childish, but strangely grows into a worldly deliverer of dead-pan snark not unlike another child hero, Baby Yoshi from Paper Mario; TTYD.
His initial infantile behavior did make me think this lone addition to his wardrobe was a bit appropriate but I have yet to finish the game so I cannot say for sure if anything will dispel this illusion to his age.
Tibby, Rhythm Heaven, and related concepts are property of Nintendo and SPD Group 1
