i hate that i had to include my phone # to make an account (though i fully understand the reasons why)
it alerted everyone who has my number that i have that telegram account and i was hoping to have it be a furry-only account (cause i dont really have anything like that for chatting) but now i have no choice but to have IRL people added to it LOL

It may be worth noting that even though I denied Telegram access to my Contacts, three of my friends (already on Telegram and had my phone number) nigh-instantly received notification when I opened my account because they gave it access to their contacts beforehand-- which had my number in it.
So even if you don't have a Telegram account, there is a good possibility that it already knows your phone number inadvertently given to them by your friends.
It's convenient for you, your friends, and potential telemarketers.

It seems like a lot of things these days don't really accommodate the "secret identity" thing that furries have come to take for granted. In the early days of the net, using one's real name was unusual; today it's expected by many services. Most people are apparently fine with that, but those of us who actually had a reason to separate our identities are being left behind.
I think this may be part of the same trend. Skype somehow added one of my nursing school instructors to my contacts list because I have her number in my phone. If the same thing happened on her end then she's probably wondering why some rat person with a strange name is suddenly on her list. Similarly with Telegram, I think it's trying to be helpful but failing to realize that some of us have segregated lives.
It's odd since Telegram is otherwise excellent with privacy and security--that's sort of the point of the whole thing.
