Ferriner Species Guide + Info!
My newest species concept, Ferriners! Their name comes from "ferret" and "mariner" as they have ferret-like anatomy and are semi-aquatic!
General Info:
Ferriners live in the same universe/world as Faeritails and Fennoms, though they have variations based on the water they live in. They are a hybrid of ferrets and various aquatic influences. The scale patches on their heads were once highly valued and people still collect the shed scales to use in jewelry making and other crafts. They are semi-aquatic mammals, much like dolphins or manatees, and different variants may interbreed. The offspring falls into the mother's variant type, so a saltwater mother and a domesticated father would yield a saltwater kit. Litters of kits are typically 2-4 per parental pair.
Yes, you may make your own!
They can have any colors or markings, just try to follow the variant guides below!
The guide above shows the traits each variant MUST have, otherwise it's not a Ferriner! Other than that, have fun!
All types has forked tongues and webbed toes!
You may have as many as you like!
They are breedable! Remember, offspring follow mother's variant type!
Yes, you may breed Ferriners! Do it yourself or let me design some for you for an agreed trade!
Remeber credit for the species please :>
Saltwater
Found in the world's oceans, these Ferriners are known for bright colors and delicate personalities. They are usually very gentle and are prized as star attractions in aquariums. Many humans enjoy swimming with this variant while on vacation or while diving, as saltwater Ferriners are known to be very curious and friendly creatures!
Freshwater
Freshwater Ferriners make their homes in ponds, lakes, and rivers across the world. Their fins tend to be shorter/flatter than their saltwater cousins and they boast darker/duller colors to help them blend into muddy banks and marshy plants. An old style of fishing employs these freshwater creatures, which are often trained to help fishermen by flushing out hidden fish.
Predatory
This variant is known for its fast movements and razor sharp fins. Predatory Ferriners are named so because their diets consist of only meat. Despite their frightening appearance, they are actually quite timid and will not attack anything bigger than they are, so attacks on humans or larger animals are nonexistant. As a result, they are hard to sight in the wild, but are actually just as common as the other variants.
Domesticated
Domesticated Ferriners grew out of selective breeding of the saltwater variety. They act similarly to their distant cousins, retain similar color patterns, and have extravagant fins on their bodies. Some even possess a degree of bio-luminescence as a result of other crossbreeding and recessive genetic code. Many humans keep them as pets, where they become great companions and are occasionally trained for service animals.
They are an OPEN species by me,
