Jonesy can't really argue the benefits of getting fatter. Primarily, fat floats so she'd be a literal life-preserver with an increased lipid content.

But her options to gain weight weren't that many. At least, after her initial change into a leviathan. It was a blessing from the heavens, though, when she found the "Lifeguard's Bikini: for all your buoyancy needs." She also liked the darkened red color of it.
