A horror comic I was reading referenced the old Hook Handed Lunatic story and it got me thinking about what kind of asylum lets a murderous psychopath keep a sharp object attached to his arm.

A really crappy one, obviously. A lot of urban legends are like that - if you look at the fine details, the story falls apart.

Well, it did originate in the 50s, back then asylums were basically concentration camps

I dont know about Saudi Arabia or Egypt, but for the most part, the other nations mental health facilities are no longer concentration camps

Sorry my bad. I was basically referring to the entire COUNTRY since that's what they seem to be, to ME anyway. I can't speak for the other countries but i KNOW that the USA is for all intent and purposes one big asylum that the inmates are running.
