[FF X] Servants of the Mountain
Kimahri from Final Fantasy X
Right after I wrote a journal how I was going to pick up the art pace, I saw the FF X/X-2 HD remastered on Steam and immediately wasted 180 hours on it. FF X was my favourite FF because of the three characters, Rikku, Lulu and Husbando Kimahri. It was the only JRPG game I played that gave the furry char actual development, background and an actual story role outside "meatshield".
Man, it saddens me how FF games aren't that fantasy anymore when coming up with playable races.

Well, he barely has any screen time in X-2 (which is hated for being a girl-band fun fun time game instead of a serious and sad one).
And in X, most people don't look at Kimahri as Kimahri, but as another fighter in the team and he's like, part of the bottom 3 when it comes to min-max strength because of how ridiculously strong Rikku, Tidus and Wakka are compared to the rest of the cast. (Especially Rikku who is a core part of every self-gimp challenges ever)
I brought up how he's the "best" character in development and the people bashed me saying how Kimahri is useless and to just use Wakka Attack reel and stuffs. Huge shame they all hate him because he lacks multi-hit overdrive for a char that isn't a female human too so he doesn't have a "Muh Waifu" fanclub to bring up his popularity either.

I never minded the whole girl-band thing, but yeah the story could have been a lot better then it was. especially coming after one of the more serious and sadder games in the series and being the first official Final Fantasy sequel they just kinda rushed it out there. Being the leader of the Ronso made sense for Kimahri, but I didn't get the point of having the older characters around just for the sake of having them around.
Can't you get anyone's stats maxed out on the game though? I've had max everything with all of them. I don't know what a self-gimp challenge is, but I don't use Rikku or Wakka as a final party member. I use Tidus because he is the only one you can actually name and I use Yuna because of Aeons. The third slot is pretty much open for me.
I think Kimahri is reallyu useful especially early in the game. Having his sphere grid in the center means he is kinda blank slate and you can choose to have him grow however you please without any major issues coming up.
In my first ever file I tried that with Tidus and it didn't bold well at all! I would have had to do tons of extra grinding at spots if not for Kimahri having the things I needed to make battles more evened.

Playing through X-2, the only happyhappy part are actually on the main story. The game follows exactly how open-world RPG games work. Most of the meat are in the side quests and they still feel really good to complete and read the dialogue especially when you get the episode complete on each of them. It's kinda sad everyone forgets about Auron though, like, COMPLETELY, even in flash backs.
And yeah, On X, it is possible to get max stat on every char and just do 99999 damage quick hit with celestial weapon. It's just that people want to play stuffs like "No-sphere grid" for the sake of self-gimping challenges and later, add stuffs like "No using Rikku mix" and so on.
Most of the veterans ended up hating Yuna, Lulu and Kimahri because of the damage cap, making Multi-hit OD the most powerful thing in the game on stuffs without defense (Yuna hated because after Anima OD, she turns into another single-hit quick attacker). It's like, "Ha you used quick attacks to kill post-game bosses? I used Wakka Attack reel and did it twice as fast" kind of thing going on.
Kimahri really is one of the most useful member in the early game, having decent in everything with extremely versatile ult (That Mighty Guard after Ronso fight is insanely good for every boss fights) but they kinda ignored all about that simply because he falls off post-game although every Dark Aeon can be quick attack to death anyway and that even Penance is just "Quick attack the arms and then the boss until it dies".

Yeah the lack of Auron did suck. He was such an interesting character and they do away with him like it was nothing.
I guess I can understand the appeal of giving yourself a specific change in certain games you may have played and beaten numerous times before. But things like how you beat a boss and how fast seems like irrelevant things to me.
Really? Because I don't recall being able to Quick Attack characters to death. My attacks missed most of the time. I relied on magic for most of those fights.

It's for post-game contents where magic becomes unusable and everyone just uses Quick attack to deal 99999 every hit with least delay.
Earth Eater from Fiend Arena is one of the most hated-to-farm because of how long it takes to kill him and that he drops the Fortune Sphere to get max Luck with so you never miss.
It's also why people hate all non-multi OD type character because Earth Eater has 1.2mil health so you need 13 hits to kill it. They pretty much go "If you don't use Wakka or Tidus to farm him, you're dumb because Attack Reel + Slice and Dice twice = dead" when the game offers x4 speed and auto-attack that if you just have the right armor, anyone can kill the Earth Eater just as fast.
I really don't understand why elite veterans keep trying to push the whole "I'm faster so I'm better" or "I gimped myself the most" perspective people who just want to play the game and enjoy what it has to offer. X-2 has a monster called Chac that you can inifinite juggle to death and even unlock the 99-chain-hit achievement but they will just call people who does that "Unfair Zanmato Abusing noob" for not using the more annoying method of forcing oversoul and grind so the boss doesn't spam its instakill attack.

Oh, so that's what Luck does! Huh, I never got it maxed it or anywhere close with anyone and I still managed to win the fights.
Attack Reels is very chance based though. You have to be really good at the slots thing and I'm not that good with it. I just come up with my own strategies for monsters like him.
I don't care how someone beats a boss or whatever. I play games for fun and if a boss gives me a hard problem I have no issue using an easy way to be them. And I hated that Chac boss! On the orginal version when I first played it I didn't know I could keep chaining her to death. I kept going with strong attack ti try and finish her off.
Even when I did beat her I think I used that one accessory that lets you do max damage and I did Trigger Happy until she was dead.

Attack Reel and the FF x-2 Lady luck Reel pretty much has the same roulette look every time, you just start at different position. When you're used to it, you pretty much gets the 12 hits every time but it's kinda boring to play Wakka purely for that.
X-2 Roulette though, you can just pause over and over until you can get the 7 7 7 on bottom row for easy bribe and gil. It's funny how this even work on Paragon so you can just force your way to Trema.
And Chac thing, Petrification even with stoneproof really is annoying. They also removed the Catnip-Gunner combo from the Int version (which is what the remastered version is) so you're stuck beating her the normal way. You either infinite juggle her, overstat her with creature creator or force an oversoul so you can easily recover in time and won't have to deal with the AoE.
