And now for something completely different.
What you are about to see is effectively the first draft of a story that
kiru and I are jointly collaborating on as I speak. Each chapter is told from the point of view of a different character.

kicks it off.
He and his friend Sam have been wandering from forest to forest leaving a trail of young adolescent havoc in their wake....
Set your affairs in order, pack some clean clothes, say goodbye to your friends and family, and enjoy the ride. Ahem:
It was dawn. We stole this human's bike. And we decided we were gonna joyride it. So we took it down this steep hill. Sam climbed up on the crossbar. I got on...that *tilted* crossbar. The one closer to the pedals. Then I yanked up the kickstand and jumped up to grab hold of the left handlebar. It took a couple of tries, 'cause we fell over. But eventually it worked.
So we were riding this thing down the hill, and screaming our heads off. And there was a cliff coming up. Or at least a place where the hill got a lot steeper. And we jumped off just as the bike went over. Just as I stopped rolling on the ground, I heard it crash.
So then we crept over to the edge to see if we could see anything. It was kinda hard to see, cause of all the branches in the way. Then Sam got all excited and went "Dude! There it is!" in kind of a loud whisper.
I saw where he was pointing. And there was like someone's house that was made out of old boards and stuff. *Little* house. The bike totally wiped it out. And the best part was there was this old woodchuck. I guess he lived there or something. And we listened. He was like moving around in the wreckage, and we could *hear* him. He was all "That's the third time this week!" Sam and I just started laughing. We couldn't stop. I mean we were like lying there gasping.
"We should get outta here, dude," said Sam when he caught his breath.
"Yeah, we should take our business elsewhere." I was totally wiping my eyes.
So we were outta there. We took our stuff- which was all loaded into this crate which we attached to this human-size skateboard. And we just got it out of our hiding place and hit the road. We took turns pulling the thing as we walked along the side of the road. Sometimes a car would go like whooshing by. Oh, and I said we took turns, but I did more pulling than he did.
We did so much walking that day it was ridiculous. We didn't say much. It was pretty boring. I mean, it's like all we did was just go from place to place. It was getting old. And it was hot, too. Summer was coming.
Anyway, Sam got hungry so it was time to get some food. We scoped out this condo area. And there was one of us, an older female, foraging in a trashcan. First thing we see. So we park it under this tree by the sidewalk and chill out. You know, wait for her to finish what she's doing. Took a long time. I mean, we coulda threatened her or something, but we don't do girls like that. Especially older mothers, like this one.
So we *did* get some food after waiting like forever. Then we decided to take a look in the woods nearby. We hid our stuff and started looking around. And you wouldn't believe it.
There were a *lot* of us around. I mean, it was like every place was occupied. You could smell it. Every conceivable tree, burrow, hole in the ground...There were even *buildings*. There was this plastic house. You know, like they make for human kids. A toy. But a whole family were in it. They were all sleeping and there were some clothes on a clothesline. We looked at it, but there wasn't anything worth stealing. All kits clothing, so it was way too small.
So we were kinda wired cause we hadn't slept, but we couldn't stop gawking. It was like this whole town full of our own species. Pretty wild.
But the skatepark. That was pretty much when we decided to stay. Just this big skatepark. I mean, huge. And it was *jumping*. It was full of kids our own age. Mostly our species, too. A couple of cats, and a black lab who looked like the oldest dude there. I so wanted to get in there, and so did Sam. He was just like staring. "Ian, man, this is *so rad*!"
"But we're not from around here," I said. A couple of the guys there were glancing in our direction, and that always freaks me out.
"Fuck that, dude." I knew he didn't care. "We gotta do this. Let's go get our boards."
"Dude, let's not be so *open*," I started to say. But he was already going. I'm safe with him, anyway.
So we took the path back through the woods to where we hid our stuff, and we still can't stop gawking everywhere. This one cat passed by us with a board, and he looked at me and I swear I almost froze. But then he looked away and kept going. We've been kicked outta so many places it's not funny. We gotta be careful, or we're gonna seriously miss out on this place.
