hmm,, a nice and dignified merlion (I know, I know, he's not; so sue me if I simplify), would make a nice encounter for saliors. :) I love his sophisticated looks, the various fins and the shaggy mane. :)

if you had a more cartoony style I'd have said to try an 'open' inking style, like some manga artists use. you'd use long, bold lines with a lot of gaps inbetween, like at joints or where light would cut out the shadows generated by the ink line. it can create curious effects. :)

I'm not a good inker, either, and have a rather cramped and shaky hand. I have no idea how to overcome that.
