The Marcel Dassault 311 Flamant was the proud and the proof of the capacity of the post-war French aeronautical industry as it was a very performant aeroplane and one of the first french-built aircraft of the post-war. Built at 325 exemples, the Flamant flew for the first time on 6 Jully 1947 as a reply for a command from the French Air Force of 1945 and as a realisation of a project made in secret during the German occupation by Marcel Dassault, it was first powered by the engine Lorraine Béarn but as they would have been too weak, they prefered to install two engine SNECMA 12 S Argus of 588hp which allowed to the Flamant to take off fully charged on only one engine. The aircraft was built in the different French aeronautical industries such as the SNCASE, the SNCASO, the SNCAN and Morane-Saulnier and then were assembled at the Dassault Aviation factories of Bordeaux-Mérignac.
In the Air Force, it was used as a trainer and as a liaison aircraft. It was used by the French Air Force and the French Fleet Air Arm, by the Tunisian Air Force, by the Malgasy Air Force, by the Cameroonian Air Force and by the South-Vietnamese Air Force.
