A good stick can tell just what you happen to be sinking into, how deep, what obstacles might lurk below the surface, and help with rescue too!

Yeah, sometimes the stick can go much deeper than an average human's bottom out point, or, it gets caught on something and doesn't give an accurate read. Its a guess as to what is down-under so to speak, but it gives a bit of balance too, so I always keep one. My stick is a monopod so I can screwmount a camera (go-pro) in many cases, or a bigger camera while out taking nature pictures.
if ya wear leggings it keeps your legs from getting all scratched up from twigs and stickers. the outfit is tight enough that you keep your pants on even if getting muddy. Running tights are great for this. In this comic she doesn't keep her outfit on, she just goes for panties and a top
