Tycho is a swordmaster and magus assigned to the far north, in charge of a garrison of rangers, thieves, and hunters that serves as the hand of the empire in protecting its citizens as they pass through the inhospitable and hostile frozen barrens. He was taught magic after already having become a master swordsman, and helped establish the Imperial Order of Magi. When he was assigned as commander of the North by the Emperor Eizmach the Second, he moved the Magi School to the main castle in the north, Tosthavren, or "Storm Haven" in common.
