Gee, I never noticed Pippi as being racist, though I have not read them in decades. However, let's mention Tintin in the Congo for some real nerve on the writer's part. And, as a Texan, let me here state that the Comanche had it coming. Manifest destiny and all that!

The Pippi books arent RACIST per se, just kids books written at a time when most Swedes had never seen a black person. The racist parts comes mostly when Pippi goes to the south seas and meets the tribe her dad is king over.

But as I recall she has an unlimited supply of gold coins, not to mention living by herself with a horse. That would go a long way to sooth my guilt!

Dr. Eske Wollrad has jumped all over Pippi for racism. The 1969 T. V. series has been edited to remove offensive scenes. I don't have a problem with that, but in this country books like Huckleberry Finn are constantly in jeopardy for perceived racism. I am going to re-read Pippi Langstrump and make up my own mind. While I am at it, the Great Northern War with Russia is just as interesting as it can get. Charles XII was a great general and a bad king.
