"Karen seems to be nothing extraordinary to the common onlooker. She’s a fine arts graduate, working a retail job and usually is doodling ideas for a parody superhero webcomic following the mis-adventures of a character called Insanity Girl… the only thing that makes her stand out at all, really is the fact that she suffers from a strange, early onset of type two diabetes, and is regularly seen testing her blood sugar. "
"However, “Karen” is the name most people know her by, whereas a few know her as “Kuicdra.” While she is in many ways, extremely normal, at her core she’s actually a shapeshifter. However, her shapeshifting abilities manifest in a strange way. Rather than just being able to alter herself, she is able to use her blood to create things and creatures separate from herself. Like an organic culture, her blood will grow and twist into whatever Kuicdra needs. However… in order to use her abilities, it takes an immense amount of focus for her to get a clear image in her mind of what she wants, and how she wants it to behave. So, in order to force herself to focus, she draws what she wants. "
"Because of this, she is faced with several plusses and minuses. In order to do anything, she has to smear some blood on a drawing, and the drawing itself is consumed as the item or creature is formed. It takes a long time to sketch everything out, however, once it’s on paper, Kuicdra can save the drawing for later use. By looking at it, Kuicdra is able to reclaim the necessary focus and mental image she previously had, and create a creature or item to help her out. Thus, her sketchbook is her arsenal. However, if she wanted, she could alter her physical form through this means… though, she finds it to be disorienting, and frightening."
"Everything Kuicdra creates, however, has a limited lifespan, regardless of whether or not it’s an item or creature. When the time is up, the creation deteriorates into dust, and vanishes altogether. This lifespan varies a great deal depending on the quality of the original drawing, and how much blood was used. Usually, she doesn’t use more than a few drops (which she extracts using her blood sugar testing needles), but the less blood used, the shorter its lifespan. Items, such as a knife or gun, will usually last an hour or so. Creatures, depending on their size and complexity usually last ten to forty five minutes."
"Another factor is the technical quality of the drawing. She needs at least a good, solid sketch; a stick-drawing will not suffice. This too, can affect its lifespan, but, if Kuicdra doesn’t put enough focus into the art, what she creates may be defective. This can result in weapons breaking or backfiring, and creatures being weak and fragile."
"The final factor of the equaision is what mental state Kuicdra was in as she was drawing, or when she used the drawing. Creatures are her most powerful weapons, but are also very dangerous for her to use. Creatures drawn or created while she is sad or angry may be dangerously aggressive to anyone but herself, or behave recklessly. If she is distracted, the creature may run amok and be completely out of her control."
