Angelica Thunerra's raichu father Darren was a graduate of the PCA who had a short yet prodigious career in the professional battle leagues. His pikachu wife Linda was an assistant to his manager, a togekiss. When the couple discovered that Linda was pregnant, Darren was overjoyed at the prospect of being a father. However this joy would be tempered with sorrow when Angelica was born.
Angelica was born with a tiny pair of vestigial togekiss-like wings, a development which was certainly rare but not unheard of given the skewed nature of poke-genetics. The doctors were quite certain that they would atrophy and fall away soon after her birth but cautioned that surgery might be necessary in order to remove them. What was a certainty however was her mother's infidelity, the wings a certain inheritance from Darren's manager, Angelica's biological father.
Linda, unwilling to try to repair a marriage that she no longer had any interest in, left with her lover, leaving Darren to raise a daughter that wasn't even his. A good 'mon in a bad situation, Darren retired from his professional career in order to care for the pichu. Follow-up medical exams would show that Angelica's unusual features were more far-reaching than just the cosmetic. She had a lightweight body structure as well as a few other minor features common in flying types, and strangely, the wings on her back were actually growing stronger and seemed to be of no danger to her, prompting the doctors to just leave well enough alone so long as she seemed healthy.
Angelica grew up very close to her father Darren. She's well aware of the sacrifices he made to care for her and knows the situation behind it, she's always felt guilty about it. Darren has reassured her time and time again that she has no reason to, but she just doesn't want to believe it.
Though the wings on her back give her the ability to fly and should be seen as a wonderful and unique gift, she only sees them as a reminder of her mother's sin and a source of pain for the father she loves dearly. It's a feeling he has never held, and it's all in her head, but she seems determined to hold fast to it and sees the wings only as something to be ashamed of. Usually she hides them under a heavy coat, even in the summer, and resents any sort of curiosity about them.
Hoping to help his daughter get over her hangups, Darren used his status as an alumni and former professional battler to move along the paperwork to get her enrolled at the Poke-Combat Academy. He knows that there are a number of unusual 'mon in attendance there as well as teachers that might help her realize that she's not as alone as she thinks she is and has nothing to be ashamed of. As a recently-enrolled freshman Angelica is somewhat shy and reclusive, thus far not a member of any team.
(Note: This character is several months old but was never posted because the "powers that be" threw a fit over her wings, saying that hybrids aren't allowed in the PCA. Appearances aside, she ISN'T a hybrid. Her abilities, powers, and such are 100% pikachu, the wings are just my interpretation of pikachu learning the move Fly - which they can do - without having balloons tied to them. If you like her, great. If you think she's an abomination whose existence will destroy the very fabric of the PCA, well, feel free to pretend she doesn't exist. I'm just here to draw and create stuff, and like I said in a recent journal, am no longer concerned with seeking anyone's approval.)

I love this. Seriously. Its true that Pika's can learn Fly (there was a promotional card in Japan and I believe a download-able event for the 1st gen games) but they are extremely rare, as portrayed in your bio. I see no reason why this shouldn't fly (pardon the pun) in the PCA. Great job Carlito. And to the naysayers- to each their own. Just keep up the good work and hopefully have fun doing it. :)
she is the sweetest thing I've seen yet this year! very nice work on you're idea and bringing her to the PCA, I for one would be horrified if anyone thought of her as a hybrid, as I said before, lovely work, and why do I have the temptation to sing "even angel's fall" now?
she officially just got in as my third of your favorite characters, aside from Mitzi (2) and Terebra (1)
