Otis hated driving.
Not because he didn't like the art of driving alone, no. He didn't like driving in vehicles specially made for people like him. In his own incredibly biased opinion, they were as big as those monster trucks his friend in Ireland enjoyed. He was always afraid he was going to crush the smaller vehicles in front of him, or he was afraid he was going to attract more unwanted attention.
At least he didn't have Venti's problem. His family was filled with huge otters. His father was the same height, his sister was a few inches shorter than them, and his little brother was going to be the same height as him. Rumor also had it that his great grandfather was a true giant at eleven feet. His nickname was the Mastodon. The only one who wasn't towering was his mother, but she was well over six feet, so she towered in her own special way.
He couldn't relate to Venti's occasional complaint of being different at family reunions, towering over all his relatives. Otis may have towered over a few relatives, yes, but that was the exception, not the rule.
Venti. How he wished he could be the one who went out with the jackal, and he knew that some corner of the jackal's heart felt the same way. The otter also knew it would never work, though. He rarely dated outside his species, and he suspected his family wouldn't approve. They were too old fashioned--they weren't specist, they were just from a different time. It still didn't change the fact he loved Venti.
He slowly pulled into the parking lot, finding an empty spot close to Wielder's. Luck was with him all the way up to the point where he crossed over the threshold into the store. Venti was easy to spot, as was the enormous grizzly slapping the jackal on the back in what would normally be a gesture of friendship, but Otis knew Venti appreciated back slaps from the bear like Otis would appreciate a kick to the crotch.
Time to dive in and rescue the jackal, Otis thought.
Venti would owe him lunch and dinner now.
