a sheet with a sample of acceptable symbols and associated words. Also includes some theat I have ruled out (they are crossed out) The ankh and the schwa are shown in the wrong list... they are meant to go with the rest of the symbols
If anyone can think of any more, I'd be thrilled cause its kind of hard to find words that have real world objects that can be represented as a flat, monochrome icon with little confusion.
It was even harder to think of one syllable words that fit the parameters!
All of these icons must be as neutral as possible so as to attach no connotations to the assigned inmate. For example: weapons, body parts, vehicles and any food that isn't a simple fruit (so as not to remind inmates that they can't eat things like burgers pies or cakes which would make such easy icons)
As for the "permanent" symbols... basically it can't be an English letter or number, but it can be any weird character on the character map that has an actual name to go with it. Excluded are: !, @, #, $, %, any parentheses or quotations, and any that just don't sound right.
The reason for this strange numbering system is to reflect the arbitrary nature of the world and the randomness of nature and the life that is being contained in the facility. I'll write more on that later.
There will be no more additions to the shapes and their motions, I think I've exhausted all the basic shape names and basic 2d motions.
The other lists are of course not limited to what I've already drawn. These are just the ones I could think of, in the order in which I thought of them (Strange how apple came to mind first. Its such a nice word! Apple... Apple!) and were drawn during loading screens on my computer.
EDIT: ADDITIONAL RESTRICTION!
Of course due to the furry nature of this world, no animals may be used as icons even though it would free up a lot of icons for use. If I were to use animal icons then it would present identity confusion if mismatched with the inmates type. The only exception is "beetle" since it sounds great when said right after numbers, and also it is an easy to recognize geometric shape (egyptian heirogrlyphics are good at that.) And also? Who the hell would have a beetle as their fursona? Franz Kafka? Thats about it.

hmmm.. that could be an idea... but its a little too obvious and I don't want any inmates pigeon holed (if they designated a weapon icon then they will feel associated with it and it will be harder to cure the violent tendencies.
There are going to be subtler cues for such subjects but the main giveaway is the amount of restraints they are in.

You've already got some electronic schematic symbols. You could add "lamp" (a circle with either a squiggly line or an X in it, depending on if you're from 'Murica or Yurp). On the other hand, "lamp" to some critters may mean an oil lamp, like on the oil pressure light in a car. Also "transistor" (BJT type), "capacitor" (again, slightly different in different parts of the world), "triode" (vacuum toob).
Maybe waveshapes, like on an oscilloscope display? Sine, triangle, square.
In some way, you have the same problem that Apple had when making icons for the first B&W Mac display in 1984. :)

Hmm some good ideas. Problem with the other circuit components is that they have three syllables and don't not really roll off the tongue very well, however they can still be optional once I've used up the two syllable icons. For the cap it would have to be the electrolytic symbol to avoid confusion. I chose mosfet and diode cuz I like the way they sound.
Unfortunately waveforms wouldn't be appropriate since they are just a representation of a physical dynamic where mosfet represents a very specific object.
I know I gave myself insanely strict parameters here, but I like a challenge
