A little something I'm working on. Scored for a regular string quartet (two violins, a viola and a cello). Four-bar intro, followed by a 16-bar A section in B minor and a 16-bar B section in D major.
I'm totally unfamiliar with how a piece for a string quartet is scored, so I'm pretty much winging it here. It sounds okay to me, but I lack a more professional opinion to tell me if parts don't quite sound right.
This isn't finished yet -- I should give this a title, but I can't think of anything right now. Any suggestions will be noted.

The music I write is entirely done with Noteworthy Composer -- I write 'sheet' music, rather than doing whatever it is that modern musicians seem to do. This was originally done for piano, but my harmony with piano in waltzes isn't particularly good.
And I do have a keyboard, but it has no MIDI connections, nor do I have a computer that accepts MIDI connections.

I might be able to compose that way.. IF I could read music. It's pathetic.. I've played piano since I was 3 years old (I was told I would watch Fantasia, and then come out and play it on my grandparent's piano) I've created a few songs (I hope I haven't forgotten how to play them cause I haven't had any access to any piano-like-object in quite a while) and yet.. can't read a note of music other then a Middle c, and that one sometimes even confuses me. I even tried to learn and failed. I play by ear. maybe that's why I know I'd fail at computer composing 9That and the fact I tried it once with a crappy computer program my Grandpa had called ScoreWriter) XD
I, on the other hand, generally can't play something (except maybe a melody and basic chords, perhaps) unless I have the music in front of me (and if it's within my ability to). My sister was the one in my family who could improvise almost anything, but I was the one with the technical knowledge. Pretty much the sole exceptions to this I've already posted here ('Danse i Måneskin' and 'Dschinghis Khan'). When I did Music in high school I was hopeless at the melodic dictation (writing down music from what I heard), so when I compose I /have/ to have my software available, or at least paper, a pen/pencil and a keyboard.
I actually have a piano in my house, but it needs repairs, and it would cost rather a lot to do them.

True, true.. Pianos are completely awesome. There's just something majestic about a big old grand, or an old upright piano. My other problem with composing is that my hands aren't flexible enough for me to do complicated tunes. My hands like to both move at about the same way, so I can't let them move independently so most of my themes have the same background because I've only managed to get my left hand to do one thing.. I've tried to practice getting my hands independent of eachother but that's sucked. If I had a keyboard, I'd play the main tune on the Keyboard, put it on the computer, and edit it on the program, but as I have neither I can't do that XD
Sounds very nice! It has the nice up-and-down rhythm of a waltz, and the atmospheric sensation is lovely, if hard to place - at once I think of a castle perched in the mountains of Eastern Europe or Russia and a modest village in the hills of Ireland. No matter where it takes me, this is a very good piece!
