If you want more of Daph, read my stories "Tea Time" and "Belly Buddies." Both are a lot of fun

Daph huffed down the pathway cutting through the park, cold air sharp in her lungs, each step heavy and exhausted. Even her bare, nimble paws beneath her were starting to ache and burn in protest. It wasn't the healthy, challenging exhaustion she got after a good run, it was more than that. The culprit, of course, was the nearly full-term pregnant belly she carried beneath her, swaying back and forth witch each step and bouncing slightly as each paw hit the ground. It weighed her down by at least an extra twenty pounds and made her jogging sessions agony to complete.
“C'mon,” she breathed under her breath, her belly's weight nearly sending her toppling over into the grass with every step. “Push it...Push it, Daph...Come on…Come on...” One of her back muscles cramped suddenly and she winced in pain, but continued to run. Looking ahead, she spied an old, wooden park bench under a massive oak tree, set across the path from a water fountain. Her new goal.
“C'mon, let'th go,” Daph grumbled to herself, picking up the pace. “To the bench...c'mon...c'mon you fatass, move it...” In what felt like eternity, she finally stumbled forward and made it to the bench, stopping in place to pant, exhaustively, drinking in the air like she'd been drowning. She held her hands over her head to allow better air flow, but there wasn't much else she could do for her lungs squished to half their size by her overcrowded womb.
Daph rubbed her sore back with her hands as she waddled across the path to the water fountain, her tail drooping and nearly dragging across the ground. She wasn't in any state to bend over to reach it, so she had to squat to reach the clear stream of water arcing over the bowl, one arm wrapped around her belly. She wasn't stupid; she could guess how many homeless people had pissed in the fountain, but her thirst was a more pressing concern. After a minute, she used the frame to push her heavy body back up, nearly scraping the fur of her stomach against the bowl. As much as she wished she could stay wrapped around that water fountain forever, experience told her it was better to pace herself.
Sighing beneath the cover of the trees, Daph then made the arduous journey to the park bench across the path, shuffling her paws with both arms holding her belly to try and relieve some of its weight on her legs. Instead of collapsing into the seat, she simply leaned up against it. Sitting would just constrict her lungs even more than they already were. She sighed, waiting for her heart to stop thumping beneath her chest, one arm resting atop her belly. After a moment, Daph unclipped the tiny pedometer from the waist of her stretchy running pants.
“Aw fuck,” she swore, her swear echoing through her empty section of the park. “It'th not even a fuckin mile yet! What the fuck!?” She made a wordless, throaty groan of frustration before clipping it back on and pouting silently. Suddenly, beneath her hand, movement lurched from inside her belly, a swift kick visibly pushing out against her fur.
“Ghukt,” Daph said, utilizing her newly acquired set of 'I just got kicked by a baby' vocabulary. Looking down at the huge, furry mass settled back into her waist, she frowned and rubbed the sore spot with her hand. “Oh, don't you two even thtart with me right now.” Somewhere closer to the bottom of her stomach, the other shape fluttered to life and the two began to push against each other.
“Uuuugghh, come ooon, guyth!” Daph groaned, poking her fingers into either side of her belly. “I'm not in the mood for thith shit today!” Frowning, she settled back and grumbled, unable to stop the twins from duking it out for space inside her uterus. “Aren't you guyth uthually athleep during the day? At leatht wait 'til I'm at home before you decide to annoy me.” She winced again as one of the twins kicked down, coming uncomfortably close to what she assumed was her kidney. Daph rubbed her stomach idly, wishing the soreness in her belly was as easy to ignore as the pain in her legs. After a few minutes, the twins evidently tired themselves out, leaving the squirrel carrying them in a rare moment of peace.
“That'th a lot less cute than it uthed to be, yknow that?” Daph said to her belly, running her fingers through her fur. “I wath able to run while carryin' Lily, yknow, and a lot longer than thith. I know there'th, like, an extra baby in there, thure, but I can handle it!” She shrugged and shook her head, as if the babies inside her could see it. “And I like preggy joggin'! It'th an extra challenge! I'm cool with it! But guyth...you've got to work with me here.”
One of the twins shifted, half-heartedly trying to flip over. Daph sighed, patting her belly.
“I mean...I get it. You're gettin' all thrown around and knockin into each other and there'th a lot less room in there than there uthted to be. Tho...okay, I can jutht keep it to a mile, alright? Jutht a mile'th run every day, ith that bett-”
She was interrupted by the lower baby trying to push the other out of the way, starting another internal scuffle for room, but thankfully less energetic than before. Daph groaned, letting her arms fall to her side as her belly shifted and bounced from the inside. She glanced at a couple whole acorns on the back of the bench next to her and popped them in her mouth to chew on.
“You done?” she said to her belly as it began to settle down. She made a chittering noise in the back of her throat and crunched down on the acorn with her front teeth. She poked a finger into the top of her belly. “I bet you're gonna be Kevin. I've never met a Kevin that wathn't a pain in my ass.” Daph groaned to her feet and shuffled to the oak tree behind the bench, giving her back something more solid to rest against.
“You're almotht at eight monthth, tho I know your ears work by now,” Daph continued to the babies. “There'th a 10K comin up right after your due date I gotta be in shape for. If I don't thtart training now, everybody elthe ith gonna leave my fat ass in the dutht, yknow? Tho like...how do I get you guyth what you want, while I can thtill...” Daph glanced up at the crunch of gravel footsteps to see an older fox walking the path across from her. He glanced at her as he passed, slowing down and raising an eyebrow, evidently having seen Daph talking to her own belly for at least a few minutes.
“Yeah?” she growled at him. “You thee thomethin'? Can I fuckin help you? You got a fuckin problem, man?”
The fox jumped at her hostility, glancing around in worry before speed-walking away.
“Yeah, that'th what I thought,” Daph nodded, watching him shuffle down the path. As she did, one of the twins pushed out against her palm, more gently than before. She looked down at herself, feeling the soft, warm movements of the baby inside her. As frustrated as she was this late into her first time carrying twins, Daph softened at the sensation of a yet-to-be-born set of babies just trying to do the best they could in a world they didn't yet understand. She took breath, rubbing her gravid stomach thoughtfully.
“Yknow, I probably shouldn't be runnin' thith far into term, anyway,” Daph shrugged. “And part of the fun postpartum is workin off the baby weight, anyway.” She used her elbows to push off the tree, rocking unsteadily in place for a moment before finding her footing again. She patted her belly, her skin feeling more taut and stretched than last time with the weight of twins inside her. It wouldn't be long.
“Fuck it,” she said. “Let'th go get a hot dog. My treat.” Daph began to waddle over the path, before a gurgle in her stomach and more kicking from the twins stopped her. Pausing for a moment, she added, “Okay, three hot dogth. One for each of uth.”
Daph stepped over the gravel parkway and headed toward the exit to the park, walking slowly and chatting happily to twins growing comfortably inside her.

As great a character as Daph is, I wish there were some more depictions of her vulnerabilities, like having self doubts or needing someone else's help once in a while, just something to show that she has some flaws other than being boisterous. I liked this, tho, as it showed her willingness to be a professional surrogate taking some kind of toll on her personal life. I just wish I could see some more.
