Super short story that spawned out of
Palavenmoons linking me the song "The ballad of Jeremiah Peacekeeper" by Poets of the Fall which I think really fits Vitus and his connection to Varik and Cilea [belongs to
PenBen]. Though there's another song out there that speaks volumes about the Vs, but that's for some other time.
Vitus stared at the screen that showed the planet where the strike team was heading, though his gaze seemed to look past the planet and into the infinity of the stars. “Here we go again. Another planet, another outpost, another bloody battle to keep the peace. I really wish that Leveler and I weren’t needed. To be on Palaven instead, as a doctor or a teacher. Raising fluffs without having to worry about stupid threats born out of greed and prejudice. Spend more time discussing books with Adris instead of military strategies. Helping Entria in the garden.” He sighed heavily and ran his talon along Leveler’s barrel.
“Invictor?...” a Salarian voice pulled him out of his musings. Madan, always on top of the game.
“Yea, let’s go,” replied Hellwalker as he picked up his helm and weapon, heading out of the briefing room with the infiltrator in tow. In the hangar the three assault squads were already boarding their dropships, escort crafts anxiously waiting outside in space. As he walked towards the ship he felt eyes upon him and paused in his stride, Madan passing him and going onward. Vitus looked around but there was no one nearby, the assault teams having already boarded and the hangar technicians having backed off in preparation to the ships’ takeoff. Arching an eyebrow he then looked up towards the distant observation window and smiled fondly as he barely made out the shapes of Varik and Cilea. “Don’t worry, I’ll come…”
“...back.” Cilea said gently as she wrapped her arms around Varik and leaned her head against his shoulder. “I know how much you want to go with him and you damn well know I do too, but the doctor still hasn’t cleared us for active duty again. Nothing we can do about it. And you know he will always return as long as he has you here.” Varik chuckled softly and leaned in to nudge her fringe lovingly. “As long as he has -us- here, you silly pilot.”
Glancing for the last time at the giant disappearing into the ship he put an arm around her shoulders and squeezed her as the dropship took off. "Just because he's a big guy does not mean he should carry every weight and problem alone. I just... wish that, from time to time... he'd remember he's not alone."

Ohhhhh goodness, more plz! :D
I'm very fond of this piece. :3 As someone who is, predominantly, an author of romance, this really hits the spot. <3 The description of everyone's actions (Cilea and Varik, hnf! 0w0 ) and the quiet sort of mood you set... unnnngh, it's just my kind of literature.
And that perspective shift? Fookin' loved it. ;)
