And yes, reagents are expensive and rare, at least the good stuff! But I'll give 'em a discount if they bring their own. A benefit of working on commissions is, I get paid in advance. And really, if you're setting up a mountain-cracking sword for a power-mad king, you can't get paid far enough in advance; you just know some here's gonna run in and murder him, and then you have a half-finished engine of armageddon with no buyer. And they're always changing their minds halfway though, wanting a bigger scabbard, or more filigree on the handle, or they hate the color it glows...gold in advance, it's the only way.
That goes for heroes too! No paying for a sword of dragon-slaying and THEN going to slay the dragon to pay me. The dragon sure ain't gonna pay their tab if they get roasted!
