Terrible wordplay is, as they say, terrible.
This is from my bataan death march of a novel-in-progress, Rotten Blood. Vernet, on the left, has been decapitated but since he's undead, it's not nearly as much as a setback as you might think. He's still not happy about the situation. The pinkish tendrils are part of the parasite that actually animates vampires - it's a colonial organism and can survive being chopped into pieces. Emerson, the guy on the right, just found his sort-of friend's head in a hatbox on his doorstep . . . he's not sure what to do about it.
(same guys as in this http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1942270 when V. had USE for a tie)
When I write I usually draw a ton of awful little sketches almost like a storyboard. It helps for some reason. This started out as a doodle that looked a little better, and was cleaned up considerably. I left the coloring on the characters pretty flat. since I liked the cartoony look - I don't draw caricatures very often, and not well, since I have problems telling people apart.
The characters are based on real actors - that's another trick I use for writing, it helps for dialog especially if I can imagine someone real saying lines or moving about. The likenesses aren't good enough that I expect anyone to recognize them, though.

Yeah. And the one on the couch looks like Harry Potter.
As far as imagining an actor or someone standing, walking and speaking the dialogue as you're writing, that's standard. I would hesitate to believe that you'd find a single author that HASN'T done that at one point or another. Or, at least an author with halfway decent dialogue. Authors also do that when describing locations. Ian Flemming did it with his settings. London, Jamacia, The Alps, etc...are all places he'd visited and loved enough to put into his stories.

Scene: guys sitting on the couch, one looks over a scittering sound, sees the up-ened head of a former comrade crawling across the floor on spider-like legs "You gotta be fucking KIDDING..." Sorry, someone had to say it... Sadly, I was only able to guess the Crispin Glover fellow- dunno who the other actor is. :p
I have mental pictures of all my characters, too, as played by various actors who I think would do them well... I don't think that's weird at all. What's weird is when they walk into your head and start trying to have conversations with you and you ARGUE with 'em- THAT'S weird... Heh.
