I've always thought Twilight had a bit of a crush on Princess Celestia, probably being totally oblivious to it.
I'm a huge sucker for "apprentice falls for the mentor" type things.
I imagine it probably faded as Twilight grew, but at least up till becoming an alicorn, it was there.
