"So you mean to tell me," Art said, the lion leaning back against the couch, arms folded across his lean chest, "that you and Damon are dating?"
"Were dating. Emphasis on were," Venti said, leaning forward in his armchair, hands balled up.
"That's against company policy, you know." Art steadily looked over at Venti. He'd never seen the jackal like this. Usually he was confident, cool under pressure, and teasing him with no mercy. Not that he minded, but...he was surprised when Venti invited him over and wanted to talk to him. They'd gone out as friends to lunch, but never to another's apartment.
"I know, yeah." Venti sighed, reclining back, rubbing his forehead. "But it's over. Damon's moving away to another city. He's got a job offer there."
"So is that why you asked me to come over? To confess your sins, or something like that?"
"Maybe. It just...it ended so suddenly. He was hiding his real feelings about my friendship with my ex, and a couple other things." He glanced over at Art, then shook his head sadly. "I didn't really know him, even though we shared a bed." His eyes moved up to the ceiling. "I wanted to give him a second chance. I even asked him if there could even be one for us."
"He said no?"
"He said he couldn't trust himself. He says it was his mistake. He even went so far as to say he wasn't worthy of my love." Venti leaned forward again, burying his face in his hands. "What a bunch of crap. He was worthy of my love, otherwise I wouldn't have given it to him."
Art didn't know what to say. He'd never seen Venti look so vulnerable, so...small. It was an odd discrepancy, and he was starting to feel uncomfortable just sitting there. He moved over to Venti, placing a hand on the jackal's broad shoulder.
Venti looked up, and Art felt dismay upon seeing tears start to well up in Venti's eyes. "I just...I haven't felt this inadequate in years. I loved Damon, Art. When is it going to stop hurting?"
Art didn't have any answer for him.

God i can only imagine what the hell Damon must be going through, he was the one who instigated the relationship in the first place. Poor guys, they've managed to tear each other down over little things. Just like most couples, I hope they work it out! Feel the love man feel the love!
