It's been nearly two years since I last submitted a full song... and I'm sorry. But I'm going to change that!
This is one of the songs from a joint project by me and
kjorteo called "The Poison Skies", an album inspired by the characters and story of Kjorteo's novel "The Afflicted". "Stand Our Ground" is the fifteenth(!) track, and is about Jonathan Coral, a character from the story who is determined to keep standing up to the wickedness and madness of the world despite his exile in the wilderness.
You can hear the high-quality version of this track on Bandcamp, along with a selection of previews from the rest of the album.
Lyrics
[Jonathan:]
I fought the war of cities
And saw a despot steal the throne
His cruelty suppressing how we live
Accepting fear means we survive
But finally there comes a time
When we have nothing more to give
There is a virus
That's crawling through society
It lives on fear
Where no good men will fight
Against the madness
The wickedness and tyranny
As hopeless as it seems
We have to try
When the world is falling under
Are we to die
Or stand up and fight
In the end
We won’t surrender
Standing strong
Our hope will survive
We’ll stand our ground
And now I walk the wasteland
Beneath another tyrant’s hand
But still the war is not yet lost
Oh no
Oppression may outlast one life
But dreams of freedom never die
Intimidation falls
And then we fight
There is a virus...
When the world is falling under...
Stand with me
Together we’ll be strong
And still I dream
Of a life without the dome
Strength and hope
The will to carry on
For life and light
Someone must stand up and fight
When the world is falling under...
I’ll fight to the last
And stand our ground
When the world is falling down
I’ll stand on my ground
For the future of us all
I’ll never surrender
I’ll fight to the last
And stand our ground

Aaah, I've never played those but I see exactly what you mean! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nd3zX-acIoo It's in exactly the same key, as well what a feat :)
I'd say it was god damn worth the wait !
It's good to see you confident enough to sing. I know you don't like your voice much ; be assured though that it's good enough for me to like it
What else to say... It's DavidN quality. Meaning it's good on every fucking level. Thanks for sharing it with us !
PS : I still have your albums. It's part of my "long trip" playlist. Every year on the trip to EF (13h car ride), both Unreality and Signal from the Sky are played at least twice

Thank you so much! After saying that I didn't like my voice a couple of years ago, I've been practicing a little, experimenting more with it - and even though I still considered it sort of a placeholder when I started recording for this album, I've grown to actually like the results. I can't get up high or extremely powerful or anything, but as long as I keep within what I can reasonably do, I think it's beginning to work!
And it's great to know that you still enjoy my music so much :) This album has been being written for a very long time - partly because it's double the length of any of my previous ones - but there are just a few more tracks to record, and then hopefully you'll get another album to add to that list :)

You have a great voice! Yes, it's unique, but so is Dan Andriano's voice (alkaline trio), and his songs are my favorites. Unique voices aren't a bad thing. Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Janis Joplin, just to name a few, all had unique voices, so just Love it, rock it, and the rest falls into place.
Great, has style, clearly showing improvement over your older works! Your skill especially with the vocals is just getting better! I doubt there are many others around here who can sing --at all-- (I found one, though, mild, soothing bard songs, you might like to check him out).
