I kind of wanted to finally visualize how I saw this character, and for a while I've been thinking of getting it commissioned. Then I realized that I'm actually becoming a good enough artist to do it myself.
So yeah. This is NAAN-CANAAN, reality's gatekeeper and the ethereal being in charge of making sure that cross-dimensional travel between his version of reality, Empire-7, and the rest of reality stays "interesting". What's interesting? Anything that won't utterly break reality or completely change things around is allowed past him. He'd probably hate Scarlet Witch if the two of them ever met. Naan-Canaan takes an active role in protecting Empire-7 from inter-dimensional threats, since he has a soft spot for his protectorate reality. In his spare time, he likes to gaze out into the infinite wonders of what could be and what could have been, and is happy to tell you stories about what he sees. He really, really likes his job.
Referenced, here quite literally, off another comic book character who deals with reality-based nonsense and bares witness to everything in existence, Naan-Canaan is meant to portrayed as a humanoid figure made up of Kirby Krackle. They're a traditional motif across all of comics, to me they represent unlimited potential since they're tied to the Power Cosmic and most of the New Gods imagery, and they stand out against any background. That last part's important, since he's supposed to be visible through negative space. Your brain should be able to fill in the details to create his figure. The dots around waist level are both physically the most solid part of his design and his being in-universe. This "belt" can be stolen and worn by anyone willing and able to grasp for it, allowing for the ability to reshape reality. It's happened before.
