Though I am not doing Record Store Day today, yesterday I found some great LPs at my local used record shop, Spin That Records, Between $3 and $5 a pop!
Pictured are the 2 top finds. A disco 12" single by Sweat Cream, "I Don't Know What I'd Do (If You Ever Left Me)". My sister had this and handed it down to me back in the day. I played it to death and it was lost to time. It was one of those maxi singles that never resurfaced. I could never remember the name of the artist or song to track it down. While rummaging at the record store, there it was. A $3 price tag and seemingly spotless vinyl made it an easy buy. The 2nd top find was a near beautiful original copy of The Who's "Tommy". I've been trying to find a nice, playable copy forever. Most are well played and not taken care of and even those fetch a $10+ price tag. Not here! Apart from a small tear on the front, top left hand corner, the cover is intact with little wear. The vinyl is spotless. Very little to no surface noise. I'm all giddy. The price tag on this? $5! Yup, Just FIVE DOLLARS! Oh, YES, it has the booklet. I also grabbed a beautiful, original copy of The Who "Meaty, Beaty, Big And Bouncy". A compilation of very early tracks with the added hit "The Seeker" which was a UK single and not on any LP release except this. Happy happy HAPPY!
Two other excellent finds were replacements for a couple of LPs I own. Joe Cocker "I Can Stand a Little Rain" with the classic hit "You Are So Beautiful". Original with the printed inner sleeve. My copy is beat. Bought it at a yard sale. Cover is shit. It's a great LP and well produced. Last is an original pressing of Jim Croce's "You Don't Mess Around With Jim". I have a later pressing with the 'Contains The Hit "Time In A Bottle"' printed on the cover. I played these back to back and the original I just got is much richer and fuller in sound.
Until next time, HAPPY VINYL HUNTING!

"Tommy" is the album that turned The Who into an arena band. It brought them global fame. People who owned the record played it to death. Also didn't take very good care of their copies. It's why some of the most popular records and most sort after are very hard to find in decent, playable condition. I guess we both lucked out. ^^
