The pod is a massive hangar area. Two long decks going the whole length of the pod. The California Class is a dedicated carrier design.

Nice to see the Oberth style getting some love. Always did like the Oberth, though some call it Explodium. I think it would work well given the right role and modifications - take the bottom off completely, give it some pulse cannons and you have a cheap Defiant competitor, equip it with what you did and you have a transport/carrier, put a hospital pod on it and you have a medical ship... the list is so long.
