The actual problem is that Nick is a loose cannon who doesn't do it by the berk (and then the mayor will have the chiefs ass). Bogo being mindful of the wellbeing of his ass insists on that berk of his or he'll "have Nicks badge/ass, so help him Gawd".

Until Nick heroically comes through in the end in a particular dangerous case, so even Bogo have to admit that while he doesn't like Nicks methods, the sunovabitch is one helluva cerp
