Again thank you! I usually like to mix cuteness and darkness. This little alien creature is both innocent and disturbing: exploiting both part could be interesting. Emphasizing its ambiguity makes the character look more interesting. In addition, using silhouettes gives two advantages: it is much more suggestive and, if you are a lazy artist (which I am), less effort is required to draw something... ;-p
PS: For your information, here are some "steps" of this picture.

Software used: MyPaint, The GIMP, Photogramio (online)
PPS: I should maybe develop a little bit the story of this alien and its "people"...

It depends which kind of "resources" you are looking for... It seems that on that planet, stones are much more "evolved" than on Earth. This alien creature was probably conceived as an organic robot or a living interstellar probe by some mineral intelligent entity. All the creatures of its specie have the same genetic code (or program code if you prefer) and cannot reproduce themselves. By the way, someone asked for more specifications about this creature last year : here is our conversation β http://www.furaffinity.net/view/180.....#cid:101983035
interesting, so this guy is adam, or one of his species!
the aliens on that planet might see my ship as some sort of barbaric harvesting vessel with its mining lasers. they might even harvest stone themselves, and be quite happy to trade. of course i'm speaking hypothetically i don't know a thing. but if these organic creatures where built artificially, then they must be bred to be subservient, no?

These creatures were created for more subtle purpose than Asimov's robots. They were not conceived just to serve their creators. They are more like the "Machine" of the US series Persons of Interest, the little Pinocchio or, more specifically, V'ger from the 1979 movie Star Trek. They were created to understand their environment, and the feelings of the different creatures they met (organic or mineral). Their goal is purely scientific and somehow "experimental", not at all industrial. They are nor "serving" any entity, they are just living their own life, without knowing their origin. They are very curious and share all their informations and feelings (with their antennas), they never keep things for themselves because they are aware of being "part of one body" (to quote a famous XIIIth century poem). Cutting their antennas is one of the very few ways to kill them.
If they see mining spaceships, they will probably be frightened and they will do their best to save and hide what could be saved, without fighting or hurting anything of course.

Thank you very much for your kind comment. Using silhouettes is quite interesting: its doesn't need to much work and the result is graphically quite powerful. Ones could also emphasize on eyes expression. For example, AndrΓ© Franquin, in his dark humour comic IdΓ©es Noires, was using them a lot:
