Lemme tell you 'bout these potatoes
So, I don't usually post recipes anywhere because I'm not much of a cook, but I made this exact recipe for my stepmother recently, who is VERY hard to impress, and for the remainder of my visit, she brought it up several times saying how much she loved it. This is a mixture of a recipe I found online that was…okay at best, and a recipe from my stepmother’s cookbook from the 70′s.
SO HERE GOES
Potatoes au gratin with kielbasa!
For this recipe, you’ll need:
6 medium potatoes
1 package of kielbasa
2 cups Shredded cheddar cheese
2 cups Milk
Garlic (powdered or fresh) to taste
1 ¼ of a large onion, chopped
3tbsp flour
A stick of butter
Bread crumbs (seasoned or otherwise, I like seasoned)
So, first things first, get your potatoes cleaned up, as you do. Take three of them, slice them VERY thin, and put them in a greased pan (2qt? I dunno what size my pan is, tbh).
Start the kielbasa. Cut into thin slices and toss them in a frying pan on high, and give them a quick sear. Put half of them on top of the potatoes.
Start the sauce! Melt the butter (yes, all of it, because there’s nothing better than super buttery potatoes, and I will fight you if you say otherwise). As soon as it’s melted, take it off the heat and mix in the flour. Then add the milk and put it on medium heat, stirring constantly. Once it starts steaming, add the garlic, onion, and 1 ¼ cups of the shredded cheddar cheese. Mix until the cheese is melted and remove from heat. Pour half of that on top of the potatoes and kielbasa already in the pan.
Slice the rest of the potatoes, put them on top, add the rest of the kielbasa, then the rest of the sauce. It’s best to use a big cooking spoon and to spread the sauce over it as evenly as possible. Top it with the remaining cheese and however much bread crumbs you want.
Then bake at 375 degrees for an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes, or until the cheese on top has started to crisp a little.
Then eat that shit and love the shit out of it.
...I would make note of how many servings this makes, but fuck if I know. I eat only one GIANT meal a day, so your guess is as good as mine. How many potatoes can you eat? XD
