Painting for my professor's birthday on Saturday, based on a photo taken while in Guánica. I had been trying to get a photo of the butterfly pictured here, but my phone couldn't get a good enough shot. He got a nice photo of it for me, instead. The photo is here. I worked from this photo but with some cropping and a couple things like other trees and a branch removed to make it look a little cleaner.
He's a botanist and I like insects, so I thought it was something nice and sentimental since this is my final semester here at MSU and he's one of my favorite professors.
I hope he likes it.

I love this. Looking at this gives that nature zen peaceful feeling that I love that you can get when out in nature by yourself. So few people can capture that feeling in a picture. That sense of awe and tranquility. It's not *just* pretty. I love that. Makes me feel like I'm actually outside looking up at it for a moment, instead of up-too-late-at-night-looking-through-a-damn-computer-screen. So yeah, that's what I love about this.
