Endless Realms bestiary - Jade Dragon
Corebook artwork for Endless Realms, a D&D-like "pen and paper" fantasy RPG I'm working for.
Jade - longevity, prosperity, benevolent providence
Differing from other dragon concepts in the game so far, this dragon isn't a demigod or avatar of a particular elemental or cosmic force. For the gemstone dragons, I was given almost entirely free reign, so I decided to take inspiration from historical and pagan lore.
Since I had to do over a dozen additional dragons, I tried to include at least a few different varieties - obviously I had to have an Oriental-style noodle-dragon, and Jade seemed the perfect pairing ;P

Yeah, I told them they'd need to do it because that was like one of the first questions I got doing bestiary art: "OMG can I play one??" haha
Mm, yeah, most video games are pretty meh so far as world depth goes, although there are a number of outstanding ones still. However, they still can't quite compare to the possibility of PnP RPGs because they're literally limited only by people's imaginations and whims :b

woooo :D love the pop of gold you have.... (I feel like literally every time I comment on any of your things I'm the ditsiest person ever xD heh....) This ones really well done :D the underbelly, the scales, the gold, the featheriness of the tail and fur was a beautiful touch as well, awesome job :D
Haha, if I do enough of them, some of them are bound to be good ;)
Really, though, I just look at lots of other art and try to think what designs/body expressions might best express the theme/idea I'm going for. I was given over 12 dragons with nothing to go from but "sapphire" "emerald" "hematite" "quartz," so I thought, what makes something x? Colour, texture, but what about look/personality? So I looked at lore for each gemstone and made up a "personality" for each dragon based on it. Like, hematite became "heavy badass guardian" and jade became "benevolent emperor." Once they had an imagined personality, it was easier to design for them :)
