I like to think that Ch'rell (the Utrom Shredder) doesn't do well with children unless they're his own. Biological or not.

For the sake of that, I like to think there is a gender in Utroms that can shift their gonads periodically. Ch'rell is depicted here as protoandrous, having at some point gone through a female phase, whether he liked it or not. He still used male pronouns then, unless it were useful for one of his multiple secret identities. Even after "reverting back", he is still able to nurse ("cropfeed") his daughter Pimiko. For whatever reason, he lost (custody?) her down the line, and adopted Karai years later.

Mortu is Pimiko's father; I like to think they used to be close in some way or another, and I am even happy to think that Mortu and Ch'rell used to be a couple. Obviously, the relationship ended on a very, very bad note.
