A nice young lady approached my table at FE 2016, looking for badge art. She was accompanied by her mother, who looked a bit overwhelmed by the experience, but wanted to make sure her daughter was okay.
I convinced them to go look at every artist in the room, before making their decision on who to commission (lots of great artists there, after all!)
They did end up coming back to me, and I made sure that I got as much info from the girl as I could, so I would make a badge she loved. (Mom looked a bit worried about giving so much money to a stranger...for something she could not see right then. Trust is sometimes hard to give, and a mom has to be wary.)
The next day, when they both came back, I had the badge all ready for the gal. Her mom looked at it and said 'And you did this in just one night??' 'Yep, and these other badges, and some sketches too!' The girl loved her Dutch Angel Dragon badge, and her mother was impressed. Success! I hope Mom will learn from her time at the con that her daughter will be safe, and no one is looking to rip her off or treat her badly.

Awe! I love seeing parents experience a con with their young one...I've seen some of them be so over-protective and nervous at the beginning, then be right into the whole experience by the end. XD

I always try to set parents' minds at ease when they come with their kids. I make sure they know what a fun, friendly convention they are at, and how nice most folks are. By the end of the con, I agree: they really get into it, and sometimes have ears and a tail to take home!
