whoo! sudden inspiration just from watching Narnia!
Meet another high ranking member of Phalanx, Raine, hoplite of Worth. She commands an army of 10,000 Phalanx Acolytes and serves as the organization's primary drill sergeant. She can also work hand in hand with the Hoplite of Mercy. Little is known about her, and perhaps very little will ever be known. She is a quiet, stoic, and emotionless as a Renegade Drone herself, finding that emotion is a frailty of the heart not needed.
Her power itself may have been a good enough justification. She can manipulate the mitochondria in the adrenal glands to overwork themselves, resulting in cardiac arrest. Laymen's terms, she can afflict super high blood pressure on a target. The idea is to train members of Phalanx to follow orders, defend and kill without anger, fear, or any primal emotion. Rather to be as stoic as machines themselves.
Like all Hoplites, she uses a melee weapon, preferably a machete of strange arcane power. It's made of a metal never found in any of the Ten Empires but with proper oscillation, it can generate concentrated gravity wells in any direction for short periods of time.
The runes engraved in the blade hint at a long extinct culture, possibly the Hobgoblins which had destroyed the Lunari civilization over 10,000 years before space travel was discovered. but no one has ever seen or heard of the Hobgoblins since the sealing of the Ebon Gates, whose existence and location has dissolved into legend...though Raine's weapon may conclude that the origins of her weapon may be more than a rumor.
The Ebon Gates
Those it is very cryptic, bits and pieces of Lunari History uncovered by scrolls and ancient archives by Kannist archaeologists and Berseker Scholars suggest that the Lunari had uncovered the coordinates to a strange and unstable world in a different universe.
What happened after is very grim reading. Upon opening it, it was like opening the gates of the Void itself. Creatures dubbed as Demons flew through the Rift Portal, violent and indiscriminate like a hurricane, sacking the Empire of Old Luna within a matter of weeks. The demons died days after, their bodies unconditioned to survive in the worlds as we know them.
Still, precautions were taken. The rift remained open for some reason, and thus they closed it the way to the dying world with a gate made from the blackest, densest metal ever found. Upon finishing the project, the Lunari abandoned their fallen civilization and fled to the Wilderness to hide from the shame, eventually becoming the Berserker civilization we see today.
The location of the Gates remain unknown, though rumours lead to believe that it lies in the swamp world of Fris-Kimjae, a world inhabited by the reclusive Demon race(not the race of demons which destroyed the Lunari), but it was originally a world that the Lunari had inhabited proudly before abandoning. No one has ever visited the world since the war started, but it may very well be the Renegades and Phalanx have captured it and uncovered the Ebon Gates.
