What're those curly shapes where the letters should be? Ate they letters in a real/made up language?

The "language" is Theban, it is an alphabet created by the Wicca community back in the ole' days to keep people from being able to read their writings.
it is a "real" language in that it was/is widely used in old world writings, spells, and other things.
