I don't think I've been very open about this, but I've been wanting to try my hand at crafting and fursuit construction for some time now. It's been a couple of years since I've done so!
First, I measured my head and compared it to the mannequin head I had. The mannequin head was much smaller than my own, so I padded it up and customized it to my exact measurements. I then took a balaclava and constructed a bucket head with 0.5 inch thick foam. I based my bucket head A LOT off of Kloof's tutorial here! SO HELPFUL.
Today was all about finding out what shapes will be best to carve out of foam all the while getting my desired saber tooth/feline look. The eye shape also changed dramatically when I drew over the two pictures that I took. As you can see in the right picture, I have a basic eye template that I was going to use, but I won't be using that I don't think for the head anymore.
I'll be drafting the ears some other time. Dare's ears are somewhat of a conundrum haha. I don't know whether to make them pointy ( like in my original reference sheet ) or more true to a smilodon, which are more rounded. ;w;

OMG, that's awesome!!! We have to totes meet up at AC! :D I plan on having him finished up by then as a partial!

I LUV BIG DUMB NOSES AND DUMB TOOFS. May I ask how you did his teefs? I'm thinking of doing Dare's with just some foam and white fleece, to keep it light and simple.

Fleece is a wonderful idea. That's exactly what I used.alternatively, you can use faux leather/vinyl for them, but it's hard to get it to look smooth (the horns on firecracker are a good example of that..I'm actually wanting to take it off and redo it in fleece)... but yeah, fleece is such a good idea.
