Here's a charming, little scene whereby I think it's illustrated quite handily Dissever's (the paladin eagle) skill at persuasion.
You know wordy cocks can be quite annoying at times too. These two travelers, I like to think of them as Paladin and Bard, share the road and a bit of conversation along the way. :D
I was greatly touched by the gift of a comic some very encouraging words, too, in regard to art by the most excellent
volleymockingbird and decided to create a scene for her eagle alter ego, Dissever, and a cockerel (I think you might know who he is...) and the ways of diplomacy.

DUDEski.. This is a nice change in style! very good. I like how you are trying new things. The feathering on dissever's neck and head come out looking really good. Cooliosities.. I SO can't wait till I can visit y'all again and do art , chicken N beer. :)

*wing hugs* Thanks so much for the nice comment, studness. This was a little gift and an attempt at going a little deeper with my art. I'm both pleased and disappointed with how this turned out, though mostly I'm happy with it. I was trying to draw the eye back a bit into the picture as well, just to give it a little more depth. I'm just not good at backgrounds.
It'll be great to see you again too. Chicken n' beer. Oh I know what you wanna do with that chicken. ;}

well, drawing the eye back would have worked, EXCEPT that you need more contrast between the foreground and the background.. so make the land going to the mountains darker as it gets closer to the mountains, and make the mountains dark, and the sky dark, then ake the sun bright, and the shading around the sun darker till it matches the sky in darkness, and leave the trail back to the mountains light.. one of the tools of composition is the use of contrasts.. straight lines vs wavey lines, bright colors versus dark colors, sharp details vs fuzziness.. stuff like that.
Another thing that might have helped is to draw it in landscape mode, instead of portriate mode and to seperate the characters a bit more, since they are dominant in the picture and cover up the background, it makes the background hard to differentiate.
thumbnail sketches too, go a long way in helping you organize your composition before you start on it. it takes a while to learn this stuf and to learn how to see it. You'll get the hang of it though. :)

I'm so glad that you have drawn strength from my words. :)
She totally looks like she's going to clobber him. :D
Heed the advice well of using contrasts in your image composition. You can either darken the background, or perhaps deaturate it. Right now it does 'fight' with the foreground for the viewer's eye.

Thanks, stud gator. I've had very nice words about my eagle head. I think I might have a career in bird portraits. If I can just get them to pay me for it! :D
Yeah, this one took about a week and a half to color, lots of weird stuff going on behind the scenes; and as always, a very good learning experience.
