... to change habits that have been ingrained for more than 10 years, and that were the core of my computer coloring methods. But changes have to be made if I want to improve. Here's a screenshot of the "Battlemage" picture, which I started coloring less than an hour ago.
Where before I would simply use the bucket to flood-fill areas, now I use the brush to actually "paint" the image. Yes, it is a heck of a lot more work. But if the end result turns out to be better than what I used to make, it will be worth it. Too early at this stage to say if it will work out or not.
Pencils look very rough and there's lots of "noise" in the image. But the pencils will eventually be replaced by a digital inking -- another new procedure for me -- so it should not be a problem, nor it will affect the final image.
And to me, music is a *very important* part of my creative process, hence the Winamp at the bottom of the screen. I feel that my energy and creative mood increase tenfold when I have music playing in the background. Over 1700 tracks to go; that should last for several Photoshop sessions.

As someone who also started out doing bucket-fill coloration and moved to brushing, the end result looked a *lot* better for me; of course, YMMV. It's definitely a lot more tedious, though.
Out of curiosity, how do you mean to do the digital inking? Painting over the pencil lines with the tablet, or...?

I've been screwing around with the fill vs brush thing for a little while and what I've been finding is that once I'm done brushing the results are very close to what I would have done if I had just done a better job of shading to add volume after filling. It seems to me that it's just a difference in the path to the final image that makes me think about it more carefully and forces a larger range of value. I think once you do a few of these with the brushing you'll find some fill tricks that greatly increase the speed of the job without sacrificing the gains from brushing.
Looks good, but just a question, for SnG's.... When you paintbrush in the main sections, are you using the actual brush, or are you using the digital pencil? I was using the brush but found that the changing colour edges got somewhat annoying, especially when dealing with layers and using 'blur' to merge the colours together.
Quite. i always work with a standard brush. one thing i'd reccommend is to have the brush size slider accessible at all times. even though you use a tablet, being able to reduce the maximum size of the brush for fine work or making it really bloody hige for those times when you so wish you could use the paint tool but can't cause you're using a soft brush is a great thing tpo have.
Btw.. any chance you could give me a few tips on your lighting techniques? Honestly, you're actualy the croc I look up to and go "I want to learn to color like he does" :P
