This is the story of a laptop named Ducky.
Ducky was a normal laptop like any other. His owner used things like the internet, word processing, and music programs, and Ducky happily obliged, processing the data to make it all happen. It was a great life for Ducky, being fed free electricity whenever he was hungry.
One day his owner got a new laptop. "A new friend!" Ducky thought. For a few hours the owner interacted with both laptops moving things around and Ducky was having fun learning about the new laptop.
Then Ducky was powered down and put in a cabinet. "This is odd, why would he put me in here?" Ducky thought right before shutdown finished.
Two months later Ducky sprang back to life when his owner pressed the power button. "Hello world!" proclaimed Ducky, then he noticed the date... "It's been two months... How could I be forgotten for so long?" It was at this time Ducky realized he had been permanently replaced. Then the power shut off suddenly as his power button was pressed.
...
"Ow!" Ducky was hurting badly and he had no idea why, he just woke up like this. His metal feels bent and things feel broken. He was inadvertently powered on when thrown out a car window, he just barely saw it speeding away... But then another car comes rushing down the road. Ducky tries to scream at it to stop but his speakers were knocked loose when he fell. The car kept getting closer, then it all went black again.
A lady found the laptop lying on the street in bad condition. It's bottom plate was missing, screen smashed, bent metal, and no battery. She picked it up and brought it to a nearby company thinking they must be the owners of this laptop. The laptop was brought in and someone from the company took it to ask around if it was anyone's. No one at the company owns it, so it was left with Ferro to play with.
Ferro knows how to fix almost any hardware problem, it could be anything from an airplane to a computer, or even living creatures that can be repaired with mechanical modifications. It's not always easy but in the end there is always a solution.
When he plugged in the laptop to find out what was happening it was in a state of delirium trying to make sense of what happened to it. Ferro could sense this and powered it off to save it the misery and set out to fixing it. He extracted all the working components from the bent frame being careful to not damage anything worse.
Once all the undamaged components were removed and connected to each other, Ferro powered it back on. Ducky felt no pain… Ferro asked Ducky questions, but he couldn’t remember anything. “What is wrong with me?” he asked worriedly.
Ferro found out the disks in the hard drive were shattered. He had no choice but to replace it. “Sorry Ducky…”
A couple hours later an operating system was installed giving Ducky something to do, Ferro assured Ducky that he would be back in a couple days with a shiny new case.
When Ferro got back, he returned with Alecia, the lady who found Ducky on the street. She needed a computer, and Ferro knew she would treat him well. Ducky was installed in his new case with a new heatsink that let him process things faster without getting too hot, and Ferro explained how Alecia is the reason he was found and fixed.
Alecia has given Ducky all the electricity he wants and provided him with plenty of games, videos, and data to process. He couldn’t be happier, but he still ponders why Ferro and Alecia had to save him.

8 GB of RAM on a single stick with an empty slot, it can be upgraded to 16 GB.
Core i54310U, 2GHz, up to 2.7GHz turbo boost, dual core with hyper threading, and Intel HD Graphics 4400. Intel's site says 3GHz turbo boost, it was probably just limited to 2.7GHz in this laptop due to thermals or power handling. It stays around 2.5GHz continously with the larger heatsink attached.
http://ark.intel.com/products/80343.....up-to-3_00-GHz
It had a 320 GB hard drive in it but that was dead, I attached a 120 GB SSD instead.
3 still working usb ports, I had to snap one off to avert the risk of creating a short.
D-sub and Display Port video outputs.
Two M.2 slots, I could attach a couple more SSDs.
It's pretty decent, especially considering all it's going to cost me is a new power supply since the one I've been using is borrowed from work.
