Eh I don't mind that stuff. Nerd moments on Top Gear interest me. How can you tell it has E36 suspension components?

Five stud wheels.

Technically you can just replace the hubs,
but it's actually easier to replace the whole suspension setup from the E36,
and it gives better handling as well.

Most people only make that swap so that they can put 18 inch rims on,
or some other ghastly five-stud-only shiny modern alloys on.
As this has got wheels which look like the standard BBS ones, I would
say that the swap has been done for suspension reasons, otherwise
it'd be pretty pointless.

Ah sweet, I love identifying stuff like that on vehicles, but I can only do it on VW's...

I'd say so, even if it's not the Sport Evo it's dressed up as, it's still in lovely condition.
