Funny, when I openly carried a gun in Tucson, I stopped 11 crimes, including an attempted murder, only ONCE had to pull the pistol from the holster (the attempted murder). So not stopping the attempted murder was a bad thing? I'd love you to explain that to the woman I saved after her Boyfriend turned her into a bloody mess.
Plus I stopped 3 attempted robberies against me on my own job within a year, and not once had to withdraw the weapon from the holster (my boss likes having the shops money come back nightly, encourages me being armed.) So, allowing the potential thief taking the money, and likeky beating the hell out of me is better than carrying a weapon by government permit, after I had serious training FOR that permit?
I view it as an insurance policy, and hope I never need to use it as its designed for.

I'll add my sister emasculated her would be rapist that tried to rape her , she used a .38 she carried. That guy was released from a Califfornia Prison 3 days prior, with a history of violent rape on his rap sheet.
I also fully believe that ALL first time firearm owners take a mandatory firearms safety class on how to properly used it, store it, clean it and the local laws concerning it. Yes, too many stupid people own guns.
I'll also add that percentage you allude to is alot higher than what you state, By a considerable number. Then again, you suffer from Under 21 Disease, not lived long enough to understand this world yet.

You do realize, that in the greater picture, a lot of hobbies have no real use, but thats not the point. A hobby is about being entertaining to someone, or at least provide a sort of distraction from your life. That useful enough.
I also dont see any harm in shooting at inanimate targets, honestly. Range shooting is what most people do that use their guns. That is even a thing in societies where owning guns is a rarity, like say my homeland of germany and Schützenvereine. Theres a discipline in keeping a gun steady and squeezing off a good shot, and then doing it again and again, similiar to archery or fencing.
Theres enough gun collectors who own guns and don't even fire them, collecting them because the admire the history and mechanical aspects behind them, similiar to people who collect blades or clocks for example.
Again, just because a minority, and lets be honest, it IS a minority, use their guns to go crazy and kill people doesnt mean that EVERYONE who owns a gun will. And if you don't have guns, people will kill each other with other things, like kitchens knives or blunt objects. If someone really wants to murder or kill someone, they will find a way.

What you said speaks volumes. (And no Trump shouldn't be President). But these people have been so disenfranchised by a war the U.S. Government started, they will do anything for revenge. Even if it means attacking countries that didn't assist the war with the U.S. To them, it's their "last days." They have to fulfill their Holy War.
