"Maria, are you ready yet?" A voice called through the house.
A young female smiled at her mirrored appearance and the voice. "I'll be down shortly. I'm almost done." She replied, running her fingers through her gentle brown curls. Her lips were painted a rose pink and her make-up was light to match it. Maria was never one for eccentric make-up. And most of what she did have was all natural.
After checking herself over and smoothing her shirt, she made her way to her living room. A smile graced her lips as soon as she saw her boyfriend. And as he turned to face her, she saw a smile immediately brighten onto his own face. "You look beautiful." She heard him say in a breathless manner.
She blushed heavily as she took his arm, her green eyes looking away from him. "I'm only in jeans and a nice shirt. Besides, you say that everyday."
She heard him chuckle as he opened the door for them to leave and begin for the car. "That's because you always do look beautiful. Even when you're sick."
What a charmer he was, as always. Thought Maria knew he was like this from the very beginning. When she first began to fall for Jason, her friends were quick to warn her about being careful. That Jason was a player, a snake charmer. But that was three years ago and the male had more than proved himself faithful.
As Jason drove them, an idle chat was set between them about classes. Jason had graduated and was now in college. Being a senior in high school, Maria was well on her way to graduating as well. And her boyfriends constant interesting talk about his college experiences had her more than excited to get into college herself. Of course she would be going to a different college, but Jason had brought up more than once about moving in together once she graduated. It was a topic that had her blushing every time it was brought up. But it made her happy, because he meant he really wanted to be with her.
It wasn't long before the arrived at their usual date diner. They got out of the car and walked hand in hand into the diner. It was a quaint little place that didn't get much business, but the food was great and it was a monthly tradition. They took a seat in their usual booth and ordered some burgers and fries. Jason held Maria's hand from across the table, saying small compliments that set her face a blaze. "Today, I want to take you somewhere even more special after our diner date. Okay?" He said, his brown eyes locked on hers in such a way that it made her shiver slightly. Her throat went dry and she nodded. "Okay." Her voice cracking a little.
Once the food came, Jason popped off the top bun and scraped off the pickles. Maria took them, a small ritual between the two. Mostly because the male hated pickles and she loved them. They took a bite, simultaneously making a pleased noise at the delicious taste. They smiled and at in silence, enjoying their food and sharing some fries.
Once they were both done, he paid for their meal and took her hand. The car was left in it's spot and she followed behind her boyfriend with curiosity. Across the street was the park. The leaves a colorful mix indicating the becoming of autumn fell all around them. She was pulled close as the arrived to a certain park bench. It was the same spot Jason first tried to hit on Maria. She remembered the day well. She had been a blushing but stubborn mess, trying her best to resist at her friends' warnings. She chuckled to herself, how well that all worked out.
Her graze rifted up as she noted a blush across the males face. How interesting, he never blushed. What was going on. She heard him clear his throat and both of her hands were taken into his. "Maria, you and I have been together for three years now. And you, you mean everything to me. You change me. I went from a player that wanted to sleep with every girl at school. To a man who wants to devote his entire life to one woman. You. You make me happier than I have been in my entire life." She watched him take a deep breath and then her eyes widened. He dropped to one knee, holding on hand as he brought a box out from his back pocket. "I know we are young. I have to finish college and you have to get in. But my life, my future, every time I imagine where I will be you are there right beside me. I want you to stand by my side for the rest of my life. So, Maria Annabelle Santana, with a promise to make you happy the rest of your life: Will you marry me?"
Tears filled her eyes as she listened to him, choking on surprise yet happy sobs. She nodded her head multiple times. "Yes, yes Jason. I will marry you." She said, wrapping her arms around his neck just as he stood to hug her.
A white dress, a white veil and a bouqet of flowers. A female with olive skin and green eyes paced a floor in nervous anticipation. "What if he decides to back out. What if he suddenly misses the fact that he didn't get to be with as many girls as he wanted to be in high school?" Anxiety was building up, quick and hitting her hard.
One bridesmaid smoothed down her hair, holding her close. Jun was always the one to calm people down in a soothing manner. "Relax Maria, he loves you with all of his heart. I've seen the better changes he's made just for you. He's not that child I told you to stay away from so long ago." Jun always seemed to know exactly what to say to make the fears go away. It made Maria smile.
"Really?" Jun nodded, reassuring her once again. "Okay, right. Of course. He loves me-oh god, it's almost time. Okay, breath, I just need to breath." Her bridesmaids chuckled as her father entered the room. "Are you ready Maria?" The girl gave a simple nod as her arm was taken. This was it. She was getting married. A junior in college with a fiance who had struck it big in his job. An apartment for the two of them and a whole future a head of them. When their eyes met as she started to walk, she saw the love in his eyes. The way his breathing sped up. She knew, he would always be there. By her side no matter what. Even if it was just to add pickles to a burger.
