Yeah, I haven't had the greatest exposure here. Doesn't help that I'm currently in the middle of a deployment, otherwise I'd be far more active.
It all depends on its portrayal, really. The telegraphed flashiness of the anime is best suited for the kids, while the manga, which seems better suited for older audiences, takes a more visceral approach to battling (although it still somewhat suffers from telegraphed attacks.)
I personally take more cues from the games with regards to P:FA, albeit throwing the stilted JRPG game mechanics out the window in exchange for a more tactical interpretation. It also kind of helped that it had been a nuzlocke comic that inspired me to develop this setting.
