Running Into an Old Workmate 2000km Away From Home
This is the passenger ferry "Palm Cat". Originally a ferry with Sealink Queensland, she was bought in 2009 by a former employer of mine "Sydney Fast Ferries" along with sister ferry "Maggie Cat" to run the Circular Quay to Manly fast ferry route. When "Sydney Fast Ferries" went defunct, Sealink bought the Palm Cat back to return to work on the Townsville to Magnetic Island/Palm Island routes. The "Maggie Cat" was bought by Captain Cook Cruises and remains in Sydney.
The Palm cat and Maggie Cat are powered by two Caterpillar 3412E motors producing a total of 2400 horsepower
2021 Update: The Maggie Cat is now back in the hands of SealInk Western Australia, operating their Rottnest Island route under the name Quokka 2
