MFF08 - Aelius Sketchbook
This is a sketchbook piece that I had to bring home with me from MFF. Sadly, I'm only JUST getting around to finishing it. So, this sketchbook can finally get back to it's owner, Aelius. :)
The image is actually missing the bottom 2 inches or so. So, the trenchcoat got a bit cut off. But, the overall mood of the pic is still pretty much intact, at least.
I went totally "experimental" with the background. Used a black Copic marker and just randomly moved it about to create a semi-chaotic mood in the background. The idea was to sort of reflect a balance between control and chaos (see what I did there, bringin' back the whole "chaos" thing?) within the character's soul. Probably a bit too deep an explanation, there. :P But, honestly, I kinda like how it turned out.

Nice work, buddy. The way the coat is lifted and flowing really works with the disorderly background, and helps give the piece a somewhat eerie feel. She's really relaxed, yet she's unsheathing her sword, so there seems to be a lot going on. Interesting use of contrasts to establish the mood.
