Ugh, don't you hate it when software (especially games) gets developed on as-yet unreleased hardware that you won't get until three months after the software's released? >.<

By the time I get around to a game, it runs fine on mainstream hardware.

But the more general problem happens everywhere -- software is developed on the latest and greatest, which is publically available but is probably at least a step above what the average user has. The development team has no idea because it works fine on their machines, and even if they recognize the problem they may not be able to get old, slow machines to test on (actually happened to a team I was on in the mid-90's).

Even worse than that is when a game is developed using old drivers which are no longer readily available, will only not crash with a certain set of hardware when it's using those specific drivers.

Mmm, yeah, and not really much anybody can do about it.
(well, maybe fire all the engineers so they can't improve on it anymore... )
