The land of Stensia is a cold and unforgiving place. Humanity is huddled within strongholds in the middle of misty ravines, hunted by ravenous vampires and beings spawning from Ashmouth. But even in the land bereft of light, life finds ways to survive.
In the time before the coming of the Archangel Avacyn, people spoke of tales of titanic gryphons stalking the mountains just beyond the foggy mountain tops, creatures that have seen true light and fight against the horrors that threaten to extinguish life. Epics have been counted of dragons besieging human settlements, only for an silver titan to appear out from the mists and attack the hellserpent, mythological creatures fighting with claw and fire, only for the gryphon to appear victorious and carry the broken serpents corpse off into the mists. Never demanding anything from the humans, never attacking lonely travelers, never oppressing those that cannot defend themselves, they were connected to images of courage and nobility, a silver feather being an honorary bestowed upon warriors who defied odds and fought the darkness where it was to be found.
With the Church of Avacyn, these beliefs and traditions have largely faded into history, told to children as stories of epic proportions. But the legends never dies and still to this day, the defiant guardians of Stensia still stalk the mists, ever ready to hunt for those who would prey on the weak.
For truly none is nobler than a griffin.

Woo, gryphons! So I have always looooved these beasts and only now got to draw some after an inspiration struck goldmine once more XD
It certainly helped that the release of the next set in Magic the Gathering, Shadows over Innistrad, is close at door. Hype is true!
The pic is unaltered because I dont have an program on my comp which I could use to do that... so until that, unadulterated.
Anyway, hope you like my addition to the family of mythology <3
