This is a good piece, but soooo much white space!! XD
Cropping is your friend. Basically it means in whatever image editing program you use, selecting the main part of the image and cutting the rest of the blank space away.
It makes for much smaller image sizes and you don't go about wasting viewing pleasure with blank space.

In other words, it distracts from the focus of the image and people tend not to like it as much.

Go scanners. They're always a bloody problem =/
Especially for the colour red!

why red?

I have -no- idea. Something to do with the light spectrum.. Scanners tend to eat: red, light shades of violet and every shiny metallic colour you can think of.
